Yeezy Season 3

Yeezy Season 3 lived up to the hype. Kanye really did outdo himself for his third NYFW collection, renting out the relatively oversized space of Madison Square Gardens to host both a fashion show and debut his seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo. With the inevitable Kardashian/ Jenner clan watching the show in, pretty much impeccable, Balmain x Yeezy get up, we were drooling at such a mismatched, crazed but envious high fashion fiesta.

The clothes themselves, which we thought were what we would be primarily concentrating on, were an upgrade from the subtle husky tones of Yeezy Season 1 and 2, whilst retaining the trademark Kanye taste. This time around the garments had a more collective feel of warmth tones, mixing burnt oranges with maroon, burgundy and brown palettes. Of course, the classic body stockings and oversized trench coats remained a staple. The return of a diverse group of models with practically make up free faces and black hair nets shifted all focus onto the mirroring diversity within this surprisingly ‘bright’ (as much as Kanye can get) collection. West also spiced up his third show with not only models on the runway but hundreds of extras clad both in Yeezy Season 3 and thrift store purchases surrounding the stage, which bought a sense of complete entitlement and ownership to this particular Season and Kanye himself, if he needed anymore.

Couple that with his entourage looking on dressed in their unique Balmain x Yeezy outfits, made specially for them in collaboration with the genius who is Oliver Rousteing, and the release of The Life of Pablo only on TIDAL, and you have yourself a fashion one of a kind. Even North West had an angelic fur jacket on- can she become anymore of a toddler icon? The well timed first appearance of Lamar Odom also conveniently boosted the profile of Yeezy 3, as if Kanye didn’t know…

But the clothes stood on their own two feet, amidst the hurricane of hysteria of a fashion show in Fashion Week in a concert venue, the announcement and performance of a brand new Yeezy album, and the spectacle of hundreds of extras devoted to the revolution of the self-professed greatest artist in the world. The knee high boots really were everything, sexing up the street vibe in an understated way, and the ejection of some colour into the blank fabrics was definitely welcomed. And could you miss Kim Kardashian’s hair? Probably not.

We applaud you Kanye, again.
