The CK hype

By  |

Sometimes, something as simple as new underwear can give us a new lease of self-confidence. Fancy knickers and bras are available in the masses, each brand trying to encompass what a woman wants. Calvin Klein hits this brief straight on the head, and so came the Klein underwear craze. Helped along by the Tumblr and Instagram culture, suddenly the coolest and sexiest underwear to be seen in was their ‘active wear’ collection.

I would struggle to find someone who hasn’t come across a picture post of a cheeky bit of branded “Calvin Klein’ waistband. This obsession, which gave rise to #myCalvins and saw A-list celebrity endorsement, is not one to be sniffed at.

The only issue is, this underwear is really quite expensive, so here’s a guide to what you can buy for the same price as, say the £28 modern bralette, or the £18 bikini briefs, or even the £39 t-shirt bra, to stop those tears when you just know you really can’t afford them.

  1. A Topshop dress

Zig zag glitter bodycon dress £30

Countless times I have walked into Topshop and eyed up something I like, walked swiftly over to it with urgency, only to sigh is dismay when I notice the price label. However, when you consider that for the same price as some Calvin undies you could bag yourself a Topshop dress, it doesn’t seem so bad.

  1. Missguided Heels

Missguided rope detail tassel heeled sandal – £30

Why stop at the dress? With the price tag of these Missguided heeled sandals coming in at only £30 you can swap up some underwear for some seriously sassy shoes. Black and tassels are always going to be a heavenly match but coupled with a high block heel and multi strap design, these sandals would be great to strut in.

  1. A clutch bag

ASOS quilted box good clutch is the backbone of any party wardrobe. This petite gold bag is a futuristic hit and would be the statement piece for any LBD. The best part, though, is the hardened case material and optional chain, which makes it very night-out resistant.

  1. Two H&M polo neck jumpers.

Fine- knit turtle neck £14.99

For even less money than a T-shirt bra, or just over price for a bralette, you could get two H&M polo neck jumpers. Not one, but two. Offered in a range of greys, rust red, mustard yellow and black, you already have the base items of two days outfit choices sorted.

  1. A faux fur jacket from Zara

Faux fur coat – £29.99

What a better way to keep warm and look stylish than to be wrapped up in this brown faux fur Zara coat, safe in the knowledge that it cost you less than a Calvin Klein T-shirt bra.

With full length, almost bell design sleeves and a round neck the 70s vibe of this coat is delightfully tangible.
