The AW15 Debrief: top trends you need to know about this season

By  |

Our fashion editor, Lily, gives you the low down on a few of the hottest trends this Autumn to work into your wardrobe.

As the nights draw in and the days shorten, other than the promise of bleak weather and the return of deadlines is there really much to look forward to as the summer comes to an end?

Being British, the weather shouldn’t be too much of a worry, but deadlines, exam stress and days spent in the library are something to be a little more anxious about.

However, we here at Liberty Belle have compiled you a comprehensive guide to the key trends spotted in fashion month earlier this year, so you can take on the autumn semester in style. Happy shopping!

Fluffy Love:

Bid fur-well to that light duster jacket and invest in something fluffier for the coming season. Look to Lanvin for statement shearling inspiration or Louis Vuitton for some maxi faux-fur gloriousness.

Geek Chic:

With Margot Tenenbaum tipped as one of AW15’s main muses, dressing for the library has never looked so chic. Gucci paired pussy prim bows with a timeless loafer, whereas Prada opted for pastel coloured tailoring with cute Mary-Jane heels… see you amongst the bookshelves rocking your specs.

Dark Victorian/Gothic Romance:

Luxurious embellishments, frilled detailing and costume-like silhouettes all key elements to creating this season’s most mournful yet decadent trend. Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen centred her collection on the beauty and decay of a rose. Finish with vampy hair and deep berry lips for a wonderfully morose on-trend look.

The 70s

Spent all your money this summer trying to channel your inner ethereal hippy? Great move investment-wise, as the 70s are here to stay. Boho floral prints and maxi dresses were seen at Anna Sui and Emilio Pucci, where as Burberry Prosum oozed seventies vibes with their shearling coats and fringing details. Keep it simple with a peasant blouse and flared jeans for a dressed down look perfect for everyday wear.

Bold and Graphic Prints

Although the days may be getting drearier this autumn, our dressing won’t be reflecting the change in weather. The most vibrant of trends to nail this season, these art-inspired graphic prints were seen everywhere. Whether you opt for a monochromatic checkerboard print like those on the drop-waist dresses at Valentino or some retro colour blocking like Jonathan Saunders, one thing to remember this AW15 if nothing else is keep it bold.

The 80s:

If the idea of an 80s revival sends shivers down your spine, be reassured that this season it will be more of a glam and vampy Uptown Girl rather than a sporty Kylie in leg warmers. Designers offered various party girl looks influenced by the decade, with Missoni uplifting their signature print with bold metallics and glitter tights where as Saint Laurent offered a leather clad, skin bearing, ripped stocking rebel. With jeweled lurex now heralded the party fabric of the season, be sure to invest in your Christmas party dress in the seasons hottest material.

Colour of the season – RED:

So the colour we’ll all be wearing this AW15 season is red. Not often is one colour so ubiquitous however it was seen head to toe across many shows from Christopher Kane to Jonathan Saunders. If there is just one red item you purchase this season, try a roll neck, cosy and totally bang on trend.
