Sheffield Shopping: Cow

Sheffield is a hub of vintage clothing and independent boutiques. Cow is majorly reppin’ the vintage scene here in Sheffield; as a well-established vintage store many shoppers discover gems nestled within the treasure trove of classic Levi’s, graphic shirts and 90s crop tops. The store stocks original vintage and reworked items for men and women, ranging from dresses, jumpers and jeans to hats, bags and shoes.

Surrounded by the eye-catching garments, I spoke to manager Terri-jayne Baker about bringing in the new season. She said: “We try and follow trends. We also make sure we are more high street efficient for the customers that like to mix high street and vintage”.

The brand supplies exclusive reworked pieces to Topshop and Topman as part of their vintage-highstreet mash up, which are often crafted from scratch and run in distributions of up to 20. The whole range is also available in the Cow store itself. Right now, the line consists of items from urban-luxe cropped jumpers to daisy-printed dresses.

The staff and buyers at Cow constantly update their stock; I’ve summarised the best items to look out for:

  1. Jeans now feature cropped and frayed bottoms and have been given the skinnier fit.

2. These beautiful plaid jumper-dresses were originally flannel shirts before they came under the creative knife of Cow. They added a high neck to keep in with this season’s turtleneck trend. flannel dresses

3. This donkey-coat is brand spanking new and suited to the set of “This is England”.

4. 90s grunge is a constant favourite in Cow. This autumn you have the joy of browsing a collection of chunky black boots.

5. Finding the perfect new season cover-up will be easy if you want to rummage through the “New in” rack. Sheepskin coat galore.

6. The 70s were a strong trend for the summer months and it remains a fashion contender. Thankfully, Cow has an entire rack of original 60s and 70s items. There’s no imitatiofringe jacketn styling here, it’s true flower power and graphic prints.

7. Knitwear is essential for autumn and winter. The A/W jumper range at Cow will keep you searching for hours to find that perfect kitsch print and polo neck.

9. Superstar Adidas are best sellers.turtle

The beauty of Cow is the rustic décor which surrounds rack upon rack of simply gorgeous clothes as a result of the shop’s tlc approach with its products. It is located on West Street and has recently been given a fresh makeover. The black shop front is the perfect precursor to the wooden inside, adorned with quirky hanging doll houses.
