Review: Madame LA LA Tan

By  |

As summer approaches, so do the strappy tops and shorter hems, and for me this usually means instant terror. As someone who isn’t overly confident in their body (I know, cue the violins) I usually turn to my old friend – fake tan.

Obviously pale girls are equally fabulous, but fake tanning is just something that I do personally to feel better about getting my skin out when the weather gets warmer. My teenage years were spent trying and testing brands, often resulting in patchy arms and tell-tale hands.

I’ve tried my fair share of fake tans and bronzing lotions, and I was keen (to say the least) to try the self-tanning skincare brand Madame LA LA.

The brand was founded by Nicole Dash Jones and the products are inspired by LA, Malibu beach, and the Hollywood lifestyle. The range includes a bronzing facial serum (£25), which I was particularly excited about, and tanning mousse (£30), which also comes in a light version for those with fairer skin.

The first thing I noticed when applying the tanning mousse is that the product is the perfect balance between being workable but also fast drying. I found it really easy to rub into my skin without it forming patches, but it also didn’t leave me feeling sticky like most tanning products I’ve tried. It’s also lightly scented, but not overpowering. Just enough to mask that typical fake tan smell of biscuits.

The guide colour made it easy to tan my whole body without missing any areas, and after sleeping on it and then rinsing it off the following morning, I was left with an all-over even tan. Another thing I have noticed after a few days that the tan hasn’t faded, and I’m totally patch-free.

I was a little apprehensive about trying the West Coast Face Bronzing serum, and so I only applied a minimal amount, just to see how my skin would react. I have sensitive skin, especially on my face, and despite my worries I woke up with my face glowing and not irritated in the slightest. Again, the product has a lovely subtle scent, but not enough to cause any irritation to my skin.

The packaging is sleek and I’m loving the brand overall. It’s a breath of fresh air to find a tan that actually works and actually doesn’t smell bad. My skin is patch free, and the face serum hasn’t harmed my skin and I’m glowing, but not at all orange.

I can’t wait to get out and show it off, once the weather decides to brighten up.
