NYFW: the highlights

By  |

From the chicest street style, to awe-inspiring shows, NYFW never fails to impress, and this year was no different.

Our fashion writer, Carman Leung, has chosen a few of her highlights from this years illustrious NYFW.

Rihanna – Fenty X Puma Collection

Following the release of Anti, it seems Rihanna is not only content dominating the world of music, but the world of fashion also.

With Stella Maxwell, Gigi and Bella Hadid gracing the runway, this was one show that was sure to cause a stir amongst fashion’s elite.

Referring to the collaboration as a ‘match made in heaven’ Rihanna describes the collection as ‘a little street, a little Japanese street culture mixed with this haunting undertone’.

The monochrome sporty streetwear is clearly inspired by looks Rihanna chooses for herself, whilst boasting an alluring mixture of elegance and rebelliousness.

So what does it take to be a Fenty girl according to Rhi Rhi? ‘There is no one girl. Any girl could feel like a Fenty girl as long as she enjoys who she is’

Lady Gaga // Marc Jacobs

Alongside supermodel royalty, Kendall Jenner, Lady Gaga made her runway debut walking in Marc Jacob’s Fall 2016 ready-to-wear fashion show.

Wearing an oversized floor length grey coat with emerald green fur arm cuffs, Gaga was the epitome of the dark, gothic theme of the show.

The show was set to a track created by the Japanese rock start Keiji Haino. The predominantly silent track with the occasional echoing chime, was characterized as ‘the haunted space between the notes’.

The dramatic and ghostly show meant New York Fashion week came to a rather unexpected and haunting close.
