Our fashion editor Caitlin James is here every Monday to give us the lowdown on how to look effortlessly chic in this years lectures, so take a seat and grab your notebook.

Mustard. A colour which is notoriously ugly, but somehow works during Autumn. Whether you’re lathering it on a cinema hotdog or adorning a yellow pom pom hat, you will be either judged or respected as we continue to either love it or loath it. For myself, mustard is the holy grail of Autumnal vibes. A pop of mustard can brighten up those Monday mornings and save you from the cliche all black errrrythang.

70’s fashion is out in full force; I’m sure you’ve got the memo. A black a-line button up skirt is a staple item of the ‘feel good’ decade and is a versatile addition to your wardrobe. Knee high boots are a must for the new season of rainy days months, visible breath and frozen toes. Wear a pair of grey ribbed knee-high socks underneath and congrats (!) you’ve cracked how to work bare legs in England’s wintery months. No need to say goodbye to your legs until the end of March. A striped knitted jumper with a touch of that good old mustard ties the outfit together- coordination is everything.

Speaking of coordination, is there a better feeling in life than when your stationary goes oh-so-well with your outfit? The kinda look that says “I’ve got my shit together”. The kinda look that presents you as the organised student your’e supposed to be. Pure sophistication. Poketo have a selection of stationery worth clearing the bank for, including these marble print pads. As do Urban Outfitters which is a little closer to home. Pretty notebooks make for enthusiastic lecture notes; see it as an investment towards your degree. Pack them into a waterproof backpack like the croc effect mi pac above and be prepared for thunderstorms.

A necessary addition to complete your Lecture Chic outfit: a rain mac. The grey raincoat above is a welcomed alternative to the standard garish raincoats in many shops on the high-street. Forget that unicorn printed over-the-top glittered poncho that matches approximately 3 items in your wardrobe and choose something a bit more understated, minimalistic and well… chic.
