Lecture Chic

Our Fashion writer Millie Dexter is here every Monday to give us the lowdown on how to look effortlessly chic in this years lectures, so take a seat and grab your notebook.

As a loyal fan of the skinny jean, I surprised myself when I invested in several pairs of flared palazzo pants over the summer. Although I wish I’d done so sooner; as a sad victim of ‘birthing hips’, baggy trousers help me out by accentuating a small waist and disguising unwanted hips. The palazzo pants served me well for my holidays but they were definitely a summer ting. So where does the baggy trouser fit into our winter wardrobe?

Autumn semester. Winter nights fast approaching, we welcome the opportunity to invest in a new wardrobe and I encourage everybody to invest in a pair of cropped baggy trousers. Last week I purchased a pair of black midi-flare trousers with turn up cuffs, finished with the D ring buckle that everybody is going crazy for at the moment. (See link below)

A decision I do not regret. These trousers take me from my lecture hall to Tuesday Club, (literally, as of last Tuesday). The baggy trouser is a ‘Lecture Chic’ staple, ticking all the boxes: comfort and style. Embrace the unforgiving winter winds walking down to uni with a trusty navy roll neck, and the last of the summer sun with some cat eyes – I opt for a pinky hue so I can tell myself not EVERYTHING I’m wearing is black. Team with a pair of patent tasselled loafers or black Stan Smiths and you’re good to go.
