Don’t sweat the small stuff

By  |

Despite the fact we may have had our whole summer over about four days here in Sheffield, you can never be too prepared for when the humidity eventually kicks in. Nothing kills summer vibes more than oily, broken-out skin, so here’s how to stay looking hot (but not too hot)…

It’s important to fully cleanse your skin regardless of the season, but it’s even more important to clear your pores when your skin gets a bit sweaty. Hitting the gym to get your last minute summer bod? It’s also important to fully cleanse your face after a work out to prevent break outs. Charcoal face masks are perfect to give purified skin, and the Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox mask (£10) is one of the best I’ve personally tried. It’s worth the money as one tube seems to last forever, and leaves your skin feeling fresh and soft.

Another charcoal-based product is this set of Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Strips (around £9), which claim to unclog pores and draw out excess oil. After using these, my nose always feels soft and deeply clean, making the *slightly* painful removal worth it. You get six nose strips in a pack and I like to use these once a week, to avoid a build up of oil on my nose.

LUSH is one of my favourite brands for skincare, because their products are so gentle on the skin. This Tea Tree Water toner (around £9) gives skin a refresh when the weather starts getting stuffy. With tea tree as its key ingredient to banish oil and battle blemishes, this is the perfect penultimate step in any skin care routine.

And finally, although we may all have our reservations about over-moisturising when our skin is feeling oily, it’s still very important. When my skin is on the oily side, I do prefer to use a lighter moisturiser and Simple will always be a winner in my eyes, not forgetting that SPF either.
