Books to look out for in 2018

‘Eve of Man’ – Giovanna and Tom Fletcher – Out on 31st May

Eve of Man is said to be part one of a trilogy co-written by the Fletchers. It is described as an unconventional love story set in a dystopian future.

The only details we currently have about the novel is that it is about a girl who is born into a world of men and she must find a way to live with being the only surviving girl, will she embrace fate or run from it?

This novel takes a turn away from the conventional writing styles adopted by the Fletchers’. Tom Fletcher is renowned for his works in children’s fiction with some of his bestsellers including The Christmasaurus and The Creakers. Meanwhile Giovanna is well-known for her romance novels such as Billy and Me and her advice and guidance novels including Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

‘Notes on a nervous planet’ – Matt Haig – Out on 5th July

Anyone who has read a novel by Matt Haig will be thrilled to hear about his latest work.

Haig adds to his list of non-fiction guidance novels with Notes on a nervous planet. How can we stay sane on a planet that makes us mad? How do we stay human in a technological world? How do we feel happy when we are encouraged to be anxious?

‘Boys keep swinging’ – Jake Shears – Out on 29th March

Before becoming lead singer in the Scissor Sisters, Jake Shears was Jason Sellards, just a boy with an imagination and a great love of He-Man dolls.

He gradually found a belonging – first in Seattle, then in New York City in the late 90s where, with friends and musicians looking for freedom and acceptance in the form of performance, he would form Scissor Sisters and go on to sell out venues worldwide.

Shears shares his memoirs in this amazing biography, a true story of growth and finding comfort with yourself.

Upstate’ – James Woods – Out on 8th March

Alan Querry, is a property developer in the North of England, has two daughters: Vanessa, who teaches Philosophy in New York, and Helen, a record company executive based in London.

The sisters never quite recovered from their parents’ bitter divorce and the early death of their mother. Vanessa was particularly affected and suffered with depression throughout her teenage years.

When she suffers a new crisis, Alan and Helen travel to New York. Why do some people find living so much harder than others? A beautiful novel with lots of lessons to be learnt from it. It’s an honest reflection of the struggles of depression and how to begin to live alongside it.
