Balmain x H&M

By  |

Balmain is set to sweep across the shelves of our very own high street with the Fashion House’s debut collection at H&M. The fashion God, Oliver Rousteing, has revealed the riot of beads, jewels and gold set to make for some fabulous, (almost) affordable party wear.

Hitting stores in less than two weeks, the chance to own a piece of clothing from the Parisian designer hailed by every Kardashian is sure to result in mile long queues and hysterical behaviour.

But will it really be worth the struggle? YES. The high street collaboration is set to include some of Rousteing’s signature design details seen through out his collections, ensuring this collaboration will maintain the classic Balmain look that’s so often favoured by none other than Kylie Jenner.

On speaking about the collection Rousteing said “I want to talk to my generation – this is my main aim as a designer…H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone in the world of Balmain, getting a piece of the dream”.

Although the collaboration does render Balmain a little more affordable for the time being, there is still quite a variety in the price range within the collection. The most expensive item being an embroidered dress comes in at £399,and the least expensive, the Balmain logo t-shirt, at £25. I guess us students will have to be content joining the slightly less glamorous t-shirt clad#balmainarmy.

Rousteing now joins the impressive list of some of the fashion world’s biggest names who have previously collaborated with H&M – Alexander Wang, Donatella Versace and Karl Lagerfeld.

Balmain has made a name for itself by pushing fashion boundaries, whilst, unlike many modern designers, continuing to worship the female form with figure hugging styles and carefully placed graphic designs. Since securing Mrs Kardashian West as his fashion muse, the spotlight and coverage on Balmain and Rousteing’s ‘Balmain Army’ has become ever more intense. Balmain Resort 2016 brings a much more subdued glamour, with husky nude palettes and simple structures instead of the frenzy of sequins and mini, mini dresses that we see in the H&M collection.

But then that is what sets Balmain apart from the other hundreds of designers. And that is why I cannot wait to (probably unsuccessfully) try to own a piece from this once in a lifetime collection. The Balmain army is set to become hundreds of thousands bigger, so here’s hoping I can be part of it too!

Balmain x H&M hits stores on November 5th.
