American drugstore skincare worth buying

By  |

When I went home for the holidays I had a long list of items to take back with me; some food, a few gifts, and a ton of beauty items. These are some of the things I brought back with me which I can’t live without. They’re worth sacrificing suitcase space for or even begging any friends going to the USA to bring back.

Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner- $10.99

This toner comes in several different varieties- lavender, coconut water, cucumber, rose, and unscented. They’re alcohol-free, cruelty-free, and made from organic witch hazel and aloe. It’s cheaper than Mario Badescu toners, smells great, and I can actually see the difference in the texture and brightness of my skin after using it.

Alba Botanica Pimple Patches- $7.99 40ct

These are a lifesaver for a breakout. They’re also cruelty-free and non-comedogenic (so they shouldn’t worsen spots). The hydrocolloid dressings cause less scarring than popping, and they contain witch hazel and tea tree oil too to help treat, protect, and suck the gross out of a spot. They’re totally worth picking up!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Skin Tint- $14.99

This lightweight foundation blends really well with your skin, doesn’t cling to dry patches, and hydrates with the same great Hydro Boost formula as the best-selling moisturiser. The tint, which has a dewy finish, won an Allure Best of Beauty 2017 Award, and it’s basically a more foundation-y alternative to Glossier’s Skin Tint.

Differin Gel (Adapalene 0.1%)- $12.99

The winner of Allure’s 2019 Best of Beauty ‘everyday acne treatment,’ it’s seriously recommended. The active ingredient is only available through a prescription in the UK, and previously was in the US too. Retinoids like Differin can basically help your skin to get better after a breakout quicker and can reduce production of future spots.

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay- $7.99 at Target

Only available online in the UK, you can get this clay mask from Target for much cheaper. It’s made from bentonite clay from California, calls itself ‘the world’s most powerful facial,’ and has rave reviews. For a large pot of clay this is a really cheap and effective face mask that lasts forever. I’ve had mine for three years and it’s not even half empty.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen Lotion SPF 55- $7.99

These days many of us try to incorporate a product with SPF somewhere into our skincare routine, it’s important even in cloudy England. This high factor facial sunscreen dries quickly, doesn’t cause makeup to be patchy, and is non-greasy.
