False Eyelashes: No Longer Something To Be Feared

By  |

I know a lot of people who are frightened to incorporate false eyelashes into their makeup routines.

But false eyelashes are not something to be feared; they can take a look from gorgeous to over-the-top-I-look-like-a-goddamn-GODDESS-right-now level. There are hundreds of brands out there to explore and if you’re not into the huge lashes then there are more natural and simpler styles out there too.

If you’re looking to spend a little more on your falsies I would invest in a brand such as Lilly Lashes, but as a beginner, perhaps go for some slightly cheaper (but still fantastic quality) brands such as Eyelure, Doll Beauty or Tatti Lashes.

How to apply them:

  1. After putting on your eyeshadow, take your lashes out of the case and put one against your lash line. By doing this, you can see if you need to trim the outer corners to ensure they fit perfectly with your eye shape. Do this with both sets of eyelashes.
  2. Now mascara. Apply to the eyelashes and wait for it to dry; doing this step means there is a more natural looking blend between your natural lashes and your false ones.
  3. Often eyelashes come with the brand’s own glue, but if your pick hasn’t, then I would recommend Duo’s eyelash glue (available in Boots, £5.99) as the pricing is fantastic for how good it is. Carefully, apply a thin layer of glue across the lash line and wait between 30-60 seconds for it to dry slightly.
  4. Then, with or without tweezers (some prefer tweezers for a more stable hand), gently press the lash as close as possible to your natural lash line. Hold for a few seconds and then pull away, hopefully leaving a false eyelash sat nicely on your lid.
  5. If the lash is sat a little too high on the lid or is slightly wonky, wait a few more seconds for the glue to dry more and then pinch the falsies to your lashes again.
  6. Now it’s time to move on to the other eye!

Don’t worry if it takes more than one attempt to apply the eyelashes, it takes a little practice to get used to the steps but once you’ve mastered it they can take as little as five minutes to do.

False eyelashes aren’t for everyone but they can really elevate your look and, like everything, practice makes perfect. Time to go splurge on Cult Beauty!
